Short trip to Madrid for a two day shooting at the Hyundai Next Level Convention. Beside fun at work, we spent half day around Madrid city where we found this incredible food place.

Each year, Nixon organise one of the wildest and remote surf contests on the planet.
Ten of the best European surfers are invited to an unknown surf destination, to battle against their own fears & human limits without the pressures of the public or the press.
An unexpected quest, one where the only enemy is yourself and your best ally is nature, in its rawest, purest form.
In June 2014, the wild terrain of Kamchatka, Russia, was chosen to host this uncommon event.
The Nixon Surf Challenge.

Ski Season Opening 09

[media id=41 width=650 height=434]

Ready in time to open the ski season around Salzburg I went down there to see my old friend Piers and his wife Jule. Both live in Salzburg for the last 2 years and enjoy the wide range of outdoor activities in summer and in winter. The snow came a bit earlier this year and invited us to go out playing in the snow on Saturday and Sunday.

Piers and I went out to an Irish pub on Friday night to exchange the news from the last 2 years. On Saturday morning Jule helped us to get prepared to go skiing inSchladming, where they had the opening day of the Planai ski resort. After some short rides we found out that the weather was in much better condition than we were. But we had great fun throwing ourbody’s around the track. Piers tested his new snowboard which he lately had bought in San Francisco and borrowed me his trick ski’s which are a tonne of fun to ride.

After the activity in the mountains, we all went pretty tired but also very satisfied from the fun we had, back to Salzburg. In the evening we visited with a friend of Jule a very nice brewery around the corner. After such a great day in the mountains I decided to postpone my trip back to Frankfurt on Sunday an to go for another ride the next day.

Some of Piers colleagues where going to a much bigger ski resort on Sunday, Kaprun, close to Zell am See. This resort is not only bigger than Schladming, it also goes up to 3000 meter, which allowed long runs from the glacier. With the muscle ache from the day before we tried to keep it easy on the first runs. But the fact that it wasconstantly snowing allowed some nice powder runs beside the open tracks. Only problem, the view. It was almost impossible to see or find the direction. Unexpected holes where taking me down quite often. Riding for the rest of the day on open tracks helped my body to not get damaged too much.

Overall another great day on ski’s and big thanks to Piers and Jule for taking me out there.

Lisbon 09

Lisbon, what a beautiful pearl at the Atlantic coast of Portugal …

We made our decision last year, around October, when we decided with our German friends from Rome, to give this place a visit. In total we spend 4 days in da city and had the most amazing weather. For British people summer, for Portuguese people the end of the winter season 🙂

Because we took the kids with us, Lola from our side and Marlene the daughter of Ilja and Isabelle, we looked for nice but still affordable place to stay. We found the perfect place in the area of Bairro Alto, which was also recommended from some of my Portuguese friends, as the best place to stay. Lots of nightlife and close to the center. If somebody is interested in the apartment we booked, here is the link WAY TO STAY . I can only recommend this place!!!

Over day we’ve been busy looking at all the nice sights of the town, and the nearby area around the center, like Belem.  Belem is called the historical heart and soul of Portugal, his natural harbor made it the starting point for many voyages of exploration.

Pantelleria ’08

Last week we followed the invitation of Simon, a friend of ours, and went for a one-week holiday to Pantelleria, an island in the Strait of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Sicily and just 70 km (43 mi) east of the African coast. The island is entirely of volcanic origin, and 117 km/2 (45 mi/2) in area. Hot mineral springs and fumaroles still testify a quiescent volcanic activity. The island is fertile, but lacks fresh water.

Simon’s family owns a beautiful country house nearby the sea where we stayed with some more friends. Throughout the week we had a great mix of relaxation, fun, good food, a lot of sun, diving, sulphur bath with fango treatment and motorboat action. I think everybody enjoyed it a lot and defiantly Lola had great fun with everybody and everything.
